Vivarium
Location – Campus II, White Building, Cellar 3. Feevale’s Vivarium is equipped with facilities that allow the raising of animals in their growing and breeding phases for scientific research. Biomedical, biomaterials and environmental research are also carried out at the Vivarium.
Toxicological Analyzes Laboratory
Location – Campus II. At the Toxicological Analyzes Laboratory analyzes in the areas of occupational toxicology, forensics, and therapeutic drug monitoring are carried out.
Cytotoxicity Laboratory
Location – Campus II. In the Cytotoxicity Laboratory there are 3 vertical laminar flows, 2 cell incubators with CO2 injection systems, 1 inverted microscope with fluorescence system and digital image capture (Olympus IX73), 2 UV / visible / fluorescence / luminescence readers for cuvettes and microplates (Molecular Devices M3), 1 conventional and 1 refrigerated centrifuges, 2 autoclaves, 1 reverse osmosis water purification system, 1 distiller, 1 nitrogen cylinder, 2 drying and 1 sterilization ovens, 2 vacuum pumps, agitators, 2 water baths, 1 digital pH meter, 1 microwave oven, 8 conventional and 5 multichannel micropipettes, 3 computers, power supplies, UPS, glassware, and reagents.
Distance Education Sector
Location – Campus II, Pink Building, Room 215. The Distance Education Sector has a team that provides pedagogical, technological and material development support to professors, tutors and students, both virtually and in person. The University offers undergraduate and graduate courses with an e-learning platform (Blackboard Learn).
Research Laboratories
Feevale has 129 Laboratories which are used to support teaching, research and extension activities. In these laboratories the teachers carry out part of their research activities and the students have the possibility to perform the assays necessary for the development of their research projects. The following laboratories are the ones which have specific pieces of equipment for the courses development.
Analytical Center
The Analytical Center was opened 2003 with the aim of meeting the demands related to teaching, research, and extension. It is registed by the State Environmental Protection Foundation (FEPAM) as an Environmental Analysis Laboratory registered under the Certificate of Registration n. 02/2008-DL.
Environmental Processes Laboratory
In the Environmental Processes Laboratory tests using the methodologies described in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater are carried out. It provides students with an adequate environment for the study and monitoring of quality parameters in waters and industrial effluents.
Microbiology Laboratory
The Microbiology Laboratory has facilities, equipment, and culture media for the cultivation of microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) and for performing tests using the methodologies described in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wasterwater in water and waste samples. The activities carried out in this laboratory focus on the areas of Environmental and Industrial Microbiology.
Atomic Absortion Laboratory
The Atomic Absortion Laboratory is used to analyze water and effluents samples, as well as other samples relevant for environmental and productive processes.
Gas Chromatography Laboratory
The Gas Chromatography Laboratory uses methodologies for water analyses based on those described by the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wasterwater, EPA or ASTM with adaptations according to the matrix.
Mass Spectrometry Laboratory
The Mass Spectrometry Laboratory uses methodologies for water analyses based on those described by the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wasterwater, EPA or ASTM with adaptations according to the matrix.
Thermal Analysis and Spectroscopy Laboratory
The Thermal Analysis and Spectroscopy Laboratory is able to develop research involving qualitative compositional analysis of organic compounds, determination of the melting point of polymers, characterization of the thermal degradation profile of materials, transition temperature of polymers and other materials, controlled room temperature, sub-ambient temperature of up to 600 °C; thermogravimetric analysis from room temperature to 1500 °C, and FTIR spectroscopy of solid and liquid samples.
Physical Chemistry Laboratory
In the Physical Chemistry Laboratory practical activities involving the determination of molecular mass of liquid and gas, miscibility of substances, activation energy in chemical reactions, specific heat, diffusion of gases, vapor pressure, and others are performed.
Biochemistry Laboratory
In the Biochemistry Laboratory tests of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, urea, among others are carried out. There are pieces of equipment for performing spectrophotometries, centrifuging, and electrophoresis.
Botany Laboratory
In the Botany Laboratory research on floristics, taxonomy, ecology of plant populations and communities are carried out aiming at the conservation of species and at the evaluation of the environmental quality of plant ecosystems.
Plant Biotechnology Laboratory
In the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory research on biomonitoring of environmental quality, on the influence of environmental factors on plant physiology and genetics, and on the propagation of plants with the use of biotechnological tools aiming at the conservation of endangered native species are carried out.
Physical Activity and Sport Laboratory
The Physical Activity and Sport Laboratory has a structure that allows the evaluation of the impact of atmospheric, environmental, and occupational pollutants on the health and pulmonary functioning of exposed individuals. This evaluation can be performed when the individual is at rest and doing physical exercise. When this is performed during physical exercise an evaluation of the impact on the cardiopulmonary system can be carried out.
Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory
In the Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory research on bioindication and biomonitoring of environmental quality is carried out, as well as studies on the influence of genes on human populations potentially exposed to environmental contaminants.
Chemistry Laboratory
The Chemistry Laboratory is used for practical classes and experiments in research projects.
Wet Processing Laboratory
The Wet Processing Laboratory is responsible for analyzing soils, plant tissues, etc. and for preparing solid, liquid, and gaseous samples for other laboratories.
Thermal Analysis and Spectroscopy Laboratory
In the Thermal Analysis and Spectroscopy Laboratory characterization of polymers, determination of transition temperature in polymers, characterization of the thermal profile of degradation of materials, thermal stability of polymers, and determination of functional groups of a compound are performed.
Hematology Laboratory
The Hematology Laboratory is used for carrying out hematological exams, such as hemogram, vsg, platelets, reticulocytes, etc. This facility is used for the diagnosis of anemia, hemoglobinopathies, leukemias, and diseases related to the hematological system.
Immunology Laboratory
In the Immunology Laboratory tests for HIV, rubella, toxoplasmosis, hormones, HCG, etc. are carried out. The laboratory has testing equipment, such as ELISA and Chemiluminescence, among others.
Molecular Microbiology Laboratory
The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory has 110m2 of area and all the necessary infrastructure for detecting viral agents as water quality markers.
Animal Cytogenetics Laboratory
The Animal Cytogenetics Laboratory is prepared for teaching and research activities in the area of environmental genotoxicity.
Geoprocessing Laboratory
The Geoprocessing Laboratory meets the demands of research and teaching in the area of geoprocessing, topography, and remote sensing.
