The animated short film Bestia, directed by Professor Hugo Covarrubias, from the School of Audiovisual Creation at Universidad Austral de Chile – a partner of Feevale University since 2008 – has gained recognition wherever it is shown. Recently, the eyes of the team were attentive to the ceremony of the 94th Academy Awards – Oscar 2022, as the movie was one of the nominees in the Best Animated Short Film category.
The Oscar was won by the Spanish-American production The Windshield Wiper, but the nomination of Bestia not only put the quality of the work of Universidad Austral on the international stage, but also increased the interest in Latin American productions. The Chilean short movie won awards such as Imaginaria, from Italy, in the Best Animated Shortfilm category, and the Biaf Bucheon, from South Korea, in the Grand Prize Best Shortfilm category. Inspired by facts, Bestia enters the life of a secret police agent in the military dictatorship in Chile. Her relationship with her dog, her body, her fears, and frustrations reveal a macabre break in her mind and in a country. The short is available on Vimeo: vimeo.com/ondemand/bestia.
