Newton Avila dos Santos will continue his academic career at Aalto University

Newton Avila dos Santos, student from the Civil Engineering course at Feevale University, is taking an important step towards his qualification in areas related to creativity, technology and innovation, which have always been of interest to him. From the second semester of this year, he will start classes in the master's degree in Building Technology, which he will attend with a full scholarship at Aalto University, Finland.

At the same time that he is doing his exchange in Finland, Santos will conclude this semester his graduation at Häme University of Applied Sciences (Hamk), Feevale's international partner. According to him, the choice for Civil Engineering was due to the potential for transformation that the area has in society. He also says that, during his academic career, he has participated in research and teaching projects at Feevale and that he currently works at Hamk's Civil Construction laboratory.

It was through these experiences that the student realized that the academic area fits his goals, and from there he had the idea to participate in the selection process for the master's degree at Aalto.

I have decided to continue my academic career, so that I can develop skills to become a great researcher and professor", he highlights.

Aalto is at the top of the Finnish ranking when it comes to technology. This year, the selection for the master's degree was one of the most popular of all times, with a record of registrations at all universities in the Nordic country, the way in which the master's degree entry process happens. He reveals that, although he was happy with the acceptance, he was not sure if he would be able to enroll due to the costs. However, a few days later a new statement came to him informing that he had been awarded with one of the category A scholarships, which cover 100% of the tuition fee.

For him, the conquest has a very special meaning and is the result of the effort and partnership of the family and the professors with whom he lived during the period. “I always tried to do my best in each course I attended, both at Feevale and Hamk, as my goal was to learn as much as possible”, he emphasizes. “I got good grades at both universities and I see this achievement as a reward for all my efforts during my studies”, he concludes.

The student states that, throughout the exchange at Hamk, he has received encouragement and support from Feevale. For Paula Cundari, director of the International and Institutional Affairs at the University, the fact that students graduated by the Institution following a professional or academic career with prominence in different parts of the world confirms the quality of the training received.
