Feevale University received Professor Timo Karppinen from Häme University of Applied Sciences (Hamk), Finland. The professor was at the Institution to participate in activities with the Design course and to continue IPSmart, a distance class that Feevale and Hamk students participated in September. In addition, Karppinen will be present at the International Strategic Seminar - Beyond: Alliance for Knowledge (BAK), which will be held from 22 to 24.

The Finnish University professor, along with Feevale professor André Conti, developed IPSmart-related Design workshops for students on Thursday, the 17th, at 6 pm, at Container City, located on Campus II. Then, at 7:30 pm, Karppinen participated in the disciplines from the Design course and gave individual consultancy to students who are developing products for Xalingo Brinquedos (Xalingo Toys) this semester.

The pilot edition of IPSmart provided integration between students from the Finnish Institution's Electronic Engineering course and Feevale's Design course, and aimed to focus on the development of design concepts for home application robots and wearable technologies. The students were mentored in Brazil by Conti and in Finland by Karppinen. Representatives from both universities will present the project during the international event this week.

According to Conti, some students have electronic parts for implementation (digital or analogical) and Karppinen intends to assist them. “As Timo is here, we are going to do this approximation work, which is already occurring through IPSmart. He is also going to talk to groups that have a kind of electronics in pieces and in games to give some of his vision and opinion, and even discuss how they could implement them for a possible prototype by the end of the semester”, he says.
