Noticing the growth of studies on the relationship of children and adolescents with the media, researchers from eight states in Brazil and Portugal created the Research Network on Communication, Childhood and Adolescence (Recria). The initiative seeks to promote, from the perspective of communication, studies, training and extension activities on the ways in which younger people are represented by the media and on the uses they make of different supports and media languages. Sarai Schmidt, professor of the Graduate Program in Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion and in Cultural Expressions and Processes at Feevale University, is one of the founders of Recria.

Professor Sarai, researcher and leader of the Child in the Media Research Group: Center for Studies in Communication, Education and Culture, highlights the importance of this collaborative network among universities: “Feevale having this space of recognition as one of the founders of this Network with international insertion is a very significant exchange opportunity”, she says. Recria is organized from laboratories and research groups in the country and abroad, which host and carry out investigations directly related to the intersections among childhood, adolescence and communication, with a view to the Brazilian reality, in addition to collaborating researchers from other institutions.

Sarai emphasizes the appreciation of the collective work carried out at Feevale through the Child in Media Group, which has a recognized trajectory in research linked to extension and teaching. "We have invested a lot in academic efforts to solidify work with recognized scientific impact and social inclusion in the community, showing and problematizing the relationship between Communication and multiple childhoods", she highlights.

Recria has three lines of action, developing actions in Brazil and establishing exchanges with Ibero-American and Portuguese-speaking countries: articulation among researchers, establishment of joint research and extension projects, and organization of events and publications. The network is articulated through the work of laboratories and research groups, in which its founders, their mentees, and other researchers work. It is possible to follow the activities on the website https://rederecria.com.br/, which also brings the main publications of the founding researchers and useful links for those interested in the subject.
